Chef Wells and her team prepare excellent food every day. Everything is homemade, and food that comes from local sources is served as often as possible. A vegetarian option is available every day. St. Bernard’s follows the guidelines for “Meatless Mondays,” not only to encourage acceptance of vegetarian food, but also to create awareness of the environmental impact of animal agriculture.
The chef considers understanding food and healthy eating to be an important part of education. She makes an effort to convey that importance to students, mainly through the examples of what they have for lunch. This kind of encouragement has resulted in the boys developing greater food awareness and a willingness to try new things. The school lunch program at St. Bernard’s serves to enhance the boys’ experience at school and provides them with an enjoyable respite from the school day by focusing on homemade and diverse lunch options, an integral part of any well-rounded education.
